Which Audio-Technica Turntable Should You Buy? LP60X vs LP70X vs LP3XBT vs LP120X (2026)
If you are buying your first record player in the US, chances are it will be an Audio-Technica. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1962 and started out making phono cartridges, the tiny part that reads the groove, so it has been obsessed with getting sound off vinyl for more than 60 years. In Japan, where we are based, vinyl is booming again: record production reached its highest value since 1989 in 2024. This guide compares Audio-Technica's current US turntables using its official specs and US list prices (October 2026).

| Model | Drive | Operation | Bluetooth | Stylus upgrades | US price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AT-LP60X | Belt | Fully automatic | BT version | ATN3600L(E) only | From $179 |
| AT-LP70X | Belt | Fully automatic | BT version | Any VM95 stylus | $249 / BT $299 |
| AT-LP3XBT | Belt | Fully automatic | aptX Adaptive | Any VM95 stylus | $379 |
| AT-LP120XUSB | Direct | Manual | No (USB out) | Any VM95 stylus | $399 |
| Sound Burger | Belt | Manual, portable | Yes | ATN3600L | $199 |
Every model here except the Sound Burger has a switchable built-in phono preamp, so you can plug straight into powered speakers. You still need speakers or an amplifier; the Bluetooth versions can also send music to wireless speakers or headphones.
AT-LP60X: press a button and listen

The best first turntable for most people. Press start and the arm lowers itself, plays the side and returns when it is done, so you never have to touch the delicate stylus. It plays 33 and 45 rpm, has a 36 dB built-in preamp, and the stylus is replaceable. The LP60XBT ($259) adds Bluetooth with aptX. In Japan, Audio-Technica lists it at 19,800 yen.
Prices and stock on Amazon change often. Look for listings shipped and sold by Amazon.com or Audio-Technica.
AT-LP70X: automatic, but ready to grow

The smart step up. Still fully automatic, but with a longer J-shaped tonearm and a cartridge from Audio-Technica's VM95 series, so you can later swap in a better stylus (elliptical, microline or Shibata) in seconds without tools. That upgrade path is the main reason to pay $70 more than the LP60X. The LP70XBT ($299) adds aptX Adaptive Bluetooth. See our stylus upgrade guide.
AT-LP3XBT: the best automatic wireless model

Automatic convenience with grown-up adjustments. The LP3XBT adds an adjustable counterweight and anti-skate, a die-cast aluminum platter and Audio-Technica's best Bluetooth (aptX Adaptive), while keeping fully automatic play and the VM95 upgrade path.
AT-LP120XUSB: the manual direct-drive classic

For people who want to handle records the traditional way. A direct-drive motor, a balanced S-shaped tonearm with a detachable headshell, 33/45/78 rpm, pitch control and a USB output for digitizing your records. You lower the arm yourself. It is the model to buy if you want to learn the craft or might try DJing.
Going further: LP5X and LP8X
The AT-LP5X ($599) is a refined manual direct-drive model with a J-shaped arm and VM95E cartridge, and the AT-LP8X ($1,299) is the semi-automatic top of the series, which lifts the arm at the end of a side.
Sound Burger: records on the go

A modern revival of Audio-Technica's 1980s portable player: battery-powered over USB-C, Bluetooth, and small enough to take to a picnic. It plays 33 and 45 rpm, and it is a fun second turntable or gift.
Vinyl in Japan, and why Audio-Technica fits
According to the Recording Industry Association of Japan, Japan produced 3.15 million analog records in 2024, up 17% from the year before, worth 7.9 billion yen, the first time above 7 billion yen since 1989. Audio-Technica grew up in that culture: its first products in 1962 were the AT-1 and AT-3 stereo cartridges, and it developed its own VM cartridge design in 1967, the ancestor of the VM95 series on today's LP70X, LP3XBT and LP120XUSB.
